Google y New York Times…

Google and the New York Times, it has been announced, have collaborated to create a mashup that shows not only when breaking news forms, but where.  The New York Times includes ‘geocodes’ in all their news stories, apparently, and that data has been utilized by some engineers in what is presumably their 20% time to create a map layer that shows headlines and story summaries pointing to various points on the map.

With the new layer, you can zoom in on an area of the map, and see what news is being made in that area, or as they suggest in the announcement, use it in conjunction with other layers that show videos or photographs.
